North Caldwell became and independent borough in 1898 when it separated from Caldwell. The area was mostly farmland and has evolved into a community with a strong residential base. Most residents commute to jobs outside the municipality. Single-family, owner-occupied homes comprise nearly all the housing. North Caldwell's residents have access to several recreational facilities including tennis courts, a community swimming pool and several playgrounds and athletic fields.
