When Millburn was incorporated as a township in 1857, the area was evolving from an agricultural economy to a thriving mill town dominated by paper, hat, cloth, and saw mills from which the town takes its name. Today the township offers a par 3 golf course, a swimming pool, several parks and the 16-acre Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary. The Paper Mill Playhouse, one of the country's outstanding regional theatres, offers plays, ballet, and concerts.
